Craig Ferguson Show - Funnier During the Writer's Strike??!

Question: Do you notice or think that late night talk shows like Craig Ferguson were actually better. I thought as he was only using his own material and having to wing it every night he was actually much funnier and more creative. Ditto, David Letterman who in some ways recreated the same feel he created in the 80's where the format seemed much looser. Any comments or observations? Did anyone think or feel that same way watching them during the strike?

David Letterman and Craig Ferguson had writers during the strike. David Letterman's Worldwide Pants Productions made a side deal with the WGA so that their writers could come back to work with them.

Thus, it's interesting that you thought they were better and more like they were "winging it", because they weren't; it was all still scripted, just as usual. Maybe the writers were energized from their time off? Maybe the writers wanted to show what they could do, as those were the only two late night shows with writers?

I only watch The Daily Show with John Stewart and Conan O'Brien, so I cannot comment on the Letterman and Ferguson broadcasts. I did think that Conan did some great improv stuff without his writers. The Daily Show is better with writers (imo), though.

i love both of those shows..i think they are both as funny during and after the strike.
