Who on earth does Oprah Winfrey compete with?!
Question: I am trying to figure out who are Oprah Winfrey's other competitors. Browsing through channels, I don't think I've seen other talk show hosts like her. She has all other things going for her too..such as the magazine O, and the Oxygen network. The world is changing quickly and so is what you see on TV and such. Do you guys think Oprah, with all her influence, can stand to 'compete' in this new society?

She has always been somewhat unique. True there have been other talk shows on, but none that (especially in the last few years) have been so without trash springer'esque content and more about giving people other options.
I'm not saying I buy into all of it, because at times I feel that she preaches a bit too much, but she does at least show other options for living your life.
I think she also connects somehow to the audience, more than anyone else. I mean look at her power, 1 day she mentions a book or a product and it flies off the shelves.
I think in the current market she doesn't have any real competition. I love watching Ellen too at times, but Ellen has more of a Merv Griffin in a clown suit feel too it (I mean that in a good way) the same way that Rosie did. Oprah is in a different league.
But that's my opinion, and no matter what I have to say about it, if she comes out and says that the color green or pink or orange will change your life, then I know the fashions will change...
Above all, like it or not, she's a good business woman or she wouldn't be where she is.

She competes with other talk show hosts, other magazine heads, other entrepreneurs, and she seems to be on top. Go, Oprah!
I think Oprah is way past the point of competion. She's proven herself and is unique. She'll retire the talk show soon, but it won't be the last you hear from O because she has so much to contribute.
I'm in DC and she's on opposite the local news.
