For me it will always be William Hartnell. The original and the best.
Not only because Hartnell was the one I saw first, but also because Hartnell's Doctor had an air of mystery about him that nobody who came after him quite matched. His motives were often ambiguous, and sometimes he could appear to be more of an anti-hero than a hero. A quality which made the Doctor a much more interesting and "real" character.
I would put Tom Baker and David Tennant equal second. Baker's 4th Doctor was certainly the most iconic of all the Doctors and definitely the most alien. In the last series of Doctor Who, Tennant gave some of the best acting performances in the series 45 year history, and has arguably become almost as iconic as Baker.

Tom Baker for me, i think it's who you grew up with, but David Tennant plays him really well.
I'm thinking David Tennant. He's the only Dr. Who I saw on the show. He also plays Barty Crouch JR. on the fourth Harry Potter movie.

Patrick Troughton. He never tried to be 'cool' and showed this by constantly messing up his lines - but the show was live then! The sets and models were so crass but the story lines were better than any of the modern rubbish.
Still, I thought that he was the most authoritative 'Doctor', following in the footsteps of the totally bemused William Hartnell, the 'original'. I had a sneaking liking for his character, too. Mr Troughton's character was more sympathetic to the plight of other people rather than being 'full of himself'.
