Daniel Faraday explained to Desmond when they were at Oxford that in order for anyone to survive the time shifts that he was experiencing, they need to have something "constant" that exists in both times to focus on. (If you'll remember the crazy guy that was strapped down in the bed, he died at the end. He didn't focus on a constant.) Daniel also told Jack, Juliet and Sun that large doses of radiation or electromagnetism can have some strange side effects. Desmond is having the time shifts because of his exposure to electromagnetism in the hatch explosion. Daniel suffers memory problems, as well as possibly the same side effects as Desmond because of his exposure to radiation from his constant experiments that he conducted at oxford. (He protected his chest, but not his head from exposure) Desmond chose Penny to be his constant. The note at the end of the episode meant that since he met Desmond in 1996, Danial can now use Desmond to be his constant to focus on. He wrote the note to himself just in case his memory failed him. (which it apparently did)
When Des came and saw him at Oxford he wrote that but he didn't know/understand it until Des had his problem. He knows that if he gets sick he will use Des like Des used Penny
I think its because Daniel has been exposed to radiation...ALREADY, because remember when he was testin that rat...I think that he was exposed to it somehow then...but i dont know thats just my theory.
but anyway im soooooooo addicted to lost, its crazy
because daniel now knows desmond in the future and the past, he can use him as his constant so that he doesn't go crazy and die
I think that he wrote it down while on the island...because once he tells Desmond to go visit himself back in 1996, he knows that should he start experiencing the same things, Desmond can be his contant.
it's definitely b/c daniel was exposed to radiation when he did the rat tests so he will have the same fate...
Not sure exactly how Faraday decided to do this,but I am wondering about something else. Penny's father bought the journal logbook from the Black Rock. What do you think is in it? Is Richard Alpert the former owner/author of the ledger that Charles Widmore purchased? Richard does not appear to age,is it possible that he is almost 200 years old? This episode has me thinking more about the original crew of the Black Rock. Is it possible that both Jacob and the cabin he is in are trapped in a temporal stasis field? Did Charles Widmore deliberately arrange for Desmond to be trapped on the island and did he buy the ledger to keep Penny from finding the island?
Daniel knew Desmond would be HIS only link of his past and his future/present..
