Is anyone else already tired of the American Idol judges harping on "song c!

Question: It seems like every year they pick a new buzzword. A few years ago they threw around "pitchy" all season. Why not judge the singer on how they perform the song they chose? Brooke White sang "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon and was off pitch through most of the song, yet the judges praised her for choosing the "right" song. What do you think?

I totally agree i thought syeshia sang me and mrs jones perfectly!!! i loved it especially since that is one of my favorite songs i thought it was sang Beautifully i cant believe they didnt like it.

It is all about public image and politics. Mindless people who manufacture their purported perceptions in order to influence the statistics or finances driving their goals.

When you have the whole of the seventies to choose just one song to act as the vehicle for your vocal strengths, I would say choice of that song plays a part in the overall sellability of a future recording artist. ..... But, yes; it's a new mantra for the season!

i though brooke was off key too.....butim not impressed with any of them truthfully........the show could also do without paula

|Ugh......ihate people that use the word mantra

Normally, I would agree with you, but not this time. Last night especially, almost all of the girls sounded horrible as compared to last week, and it WAS all about the songs they chose to sing. They all chose songs that they loved, instead of songs that could showcase their voices and ranges, and the performances suffered because of it. All of the girls in the competition this year have such incredible voices, yet you would never know that if you had only seen last night's female competition, and not last week's.

No, they've been preaching about "song choice" for the last few seasons. One of the judged explained it correctly last night when they said "know your limitations". The girls were horrid last night, but a good example of bad song choice was Amanda. That was just terrible.

I agree with what they say about song choices. Most of the
songs chosen last night were terrible. Carly was very good,
she picked a good song for herself. Kady, on the other hand picked a song that was not good for her. She doesn't have the voice to sing a Heart song. Brooke bored me to tears and I thought she sounded bad. Poor Amanda, why that song? She is awesome, but last night could've sealed her fate, unfortunately. And Ramiele, Randy was right, out of the 70's music and great songs she could've sung she chose
a stupid disco song. Bad choice.

having lived thru the 70s, I have to say there were some bad choices. some of them had me chringing- they butchered them so badly

Not really, because they are correct - song choice is everything!

I think they know what they are talking about and it is a reality. Several of the girls stunk last night for that very reason.

Agree, I almost wish they would stop letting them pick their own songs and tell them what to sing! It would save a lot of breath! Also, it would challenge them and see what they really got, they would have to try something that they may not be comfortable with and then we'd see who can really take it!

I agree with the judges.

What exactly is a "right" song? If the judges want to pick the songs for them, go ahead. Otherwise, they ought to stop harping, as you said!
