What 1950's Television Show closely resembles a 1980's or 1990's sho!

Question: I'm a Film major in college and I have to write a paper comparing a TV show from the 1950's and a show from the near present.
All I can think of is The Honeymooners (1950s) & Martin (1990s).
Do you know of any that are much better comparisons?

This may not fly will with a strict professor, but an avant garde mind may embrace a comparision of the 1950s The Guiding Light to the present Guiding Light. I'd love to read an essay comparing the longest running entertainment story then and now.

If not, there's always:
1. Leave it to Beaver to Malcolm in the Middle (shows centered on a wide-eyed boy)

2. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet to MTV's The Osbournes (shows centered on a real-life family with music connections)

3. The Donna Reed Show to Roseanne (shows centered on a family with a female lead)

I Love Lucy to Friends might work/might not depending on the material you need to cover in your paper. Lucy reminds me of Phoebe's awkward comedy along with the fact that Lucy's friends are also living in the same building.

"Ozzie and Harriett" 1950 s typical TV family
"Two and 1/2 men" today's variation on typical TV family

I think the honeymooners would fit better with married with children... i the kids don't really matter...

How about Arthur Godfrey and American Idol
or Candid Camera and Punkd.
