I think maybe i know what you are talking about. It was like Toy Story but it wasn't a film it was a tv programme. When the owners of the house cam into the room the toys had to play dead. Not sure if this is the one, but i cant think if the name anyway.

Andy Pandy were puppets and not people in costumes....The Borrowers were little people who lived under floorboards and were not people in costumes....and to medium Dave, Toy Story was an American movie..not an English programme..
