The child clearly isn't Kate's own. Plus, she doesn't get along with her mother.
Kate's Mom was trying to send her to prison for saving her life! That is something that I would not go for. yeah so Kate killed him, but she saved her Mom, how bad could it be???
I would not want my son near her either. Although, yeah Aaron has got to be Claires and she probably made an agreement.
Kate's stepfather was extremely abusive to her mother, beating her on a regular basis. Kate finally got fed up with it, and one day when he passed out (he was a drunk, and a mean one at that), she rigged the gas stove to explode and killed him. She told her mother she had freed her, and her mother reported her to the Police because "I loved him". While she was on the run, Kate heard her mother was in the hospital, tried to visit her, and her mother began screaming for the Police. So there is definitely no love lost there.
