Is American Idol a beauty contest?!
Question: Once again all I am seeing on Yahoo Answers is all the young girls screaming about good looks and "cuteness". Maybe it should be "MR.Idol" instead, since it seems to be more about "looks" than "talent".

Partly. Like any contest to become famous, you need talent first....but then you have to have looks and the ambition to go with it. That why people who sometimes are really talented but don't seem to really WANT to win get overlooked.
PS - I don't watch American Idol...in fact it makes me angry because I have to wait for HOUSE because its on. lol I do/did watch so you think you can dance, its similar. I also watched that inventor one lol
Well I guess American Idol does focus on looks but thats cause they think that is an important quality to have to make it in the music industries! although sometimes i feel bad for people who have really good voices but they ain't so pretty!
yes totally. but think about it, if you had buck teeth, face acne, tangled hair, were WAY overwieght, and wierd glasses, do you think you would win? I don't think so
Well you have to admit it helps.. but look at Simon's comments. Are you gonna bash him too? I felt bad for that Garrett guy (Peter Frampton look alike) I thought he looked perfectly fine!
I think it is because the girls here on Yahoo are noticing that most of the guys this year are young and girly boys/ eye candy which makes up for the fact that they have way less talent than the girls, yet again. I see two of these guys having good voices but most of them will get the girls behind them for their looks. The answer in some ways is yes.

cause she has an amazing voice.
