Does anyone know why they cancelled the show Girlfriends?!

Question: Girlfriends is an NAACP Image Award and Emmy Award nominated American sitcom. The show was created by Mara Brock Akil and produced by Kelsey Grammer (Cheers, Frasier). It premiered in 2000 on UPN, and continues to air on UPN's successor network, The CW. The theme song to Girlfriends is sung by R&B musician Angie Stone.

When Girlfriends returned in fall 2007 for its 8th season in the same time slot, it became the longest-running live-action sitcom currently on network television, as well as one of the highest-rated scripted shows on television among African-American adults and women 18-34, including their spin-off The Game.[1] [2]

The 8th and final season of Girlfriends premiered Monday, October 1. A preview of the next episode can be seen at CWTV.

The final two episodes recorded before the strike have aired back-to-back on Monday, February 11 at 9/8c. However, this was not a 2-part episode. Then, the show (along with the other comedies) will move to Sundays starting on February 10. This is due to the on-going writer's strike and the returning of CW's reality series. [3] On February 13, 2008, it was announced by a CW representative that a proper series finale would not be done because it would be too expensive. The announcement confirms that the show has now been cancelled.[4] The series finale however will be short clips of past seasons.

what! i did not know that. i loved that show. actually i have not seen the show in a while. last time i saw the show joan's fiance went back to the army and william and his wife were about to have a baby. that really sucks

According to TV guide the ratings were down. I believe alot of people lost interest. We all started watching the Game TV show. For more info in detail visit the following link.

I heard that the rating started to dwindle especially when Jill Marie Jones (Toni) left the show as many viewers were upset about her departure and therefore the ratings were so bad that they ended the show

yh

i guess after the writers strike ended they just decided to cancel it, much to my chagrin because i was looking forward to Joan and Aaron tying the knot.Monica and William's baby, and whether or not Maya and Darnell were going to adopt.so at this point i am totally upset with the network for yanking my favorite show!

It has a lot to do with the writers strike and low ratings...you know after they got rid of Toni, the show went downhill...but I do believe that the CW owe us fans a series finale...we need to know if crazy Joan will actually get married.

They cancelled the show because of the ratings.

WTF !!! i was wondering when i turned on my t.v yesterday where the hell my show was !
