There was a divergence of definition of the fleet hardware. In the mid-1970s, an upstart company based a game upon the Star Fleet Technical Manual, which gets into specific armory and ship classes. As the Hollywood / television series evolved, the classes of ships were revised to distance themselves from Star Fleet Technical Manual. Gene Rodenberry originally endorsed the SFTM when it looked like StarTrek (original) was headed into oblivion.
Voyager, Like the Enterprise-A is of the Intrepid-Class in the role-player universe, but never specifically itemized as such in the movies and later TV shows.
