I was telling my son abou this programme a few weeks ago and he couldn't believe that it was allowed to be shown.I found some clips on Youtube and as I was laughing my head off at how funny it still was he just stood there gob-smacked at what he was seeing and hearing

yh I do it was funny but I cant see "nig-nog" n "white honky" going down very well nowadays lol

I know - now look at the world - they would never be allowed to make that programme these days.
I always liked that they were both as silly as each other at times.

I was very small when this was on TV but I remember my parents watching it and thinking it was hilarious.

I doubt they would even be able to show it on TV these days. Just shows how attitudes have changed.

Ugh, that programme makes me cringe!! How do you find that funny?

Rudolph Walker rocks though, he went on to be in Eastenders!

Good, but never as good as Alf Garnett.

I vaguely remember it. That kind of language was accaptable in those days and the fact that racist remarks came from both white and black actors made it even funnier. I have heard black people calling each other these names recently and smiled to myself remembering Love Thy Neighbour.

Oh yes. They were both just about as much trial to their poor wives as each other. Wonder who played the wives.

*Hand waves in air*...me me me!
I remember that!...although I was only a kid at the time, I used to think it was hilarious!

ooooo showing yer age......lololololololololololol didnt the guy go into easties as patrick???

I do,Im afraid

remember it?
I spent years at school hearing "Jacko? I'll have half!".
The racist was made to look silly, the coloured guy sometimes was too and the two wives showed how real adults deal with things, a forerunner of modern "men are stupid" comedies.
It did help undermine race barriers and was funny - unlike its ghastly contemporaries like "On The Buses" and what followed, like "Mind Your Language".

If you enjoyed it, google or youtube the musical "Avenue Q" - listen to the song "Everybodys a Little Bit Racist" and enjoy! Humnour isn't dead, it has just gone underground.
Cheers, Steve.

PS they wouldn't be able to make "Blazin' Saddles" now, either.
