(The movie clip)
Dakota: What are you doing?
Old man: Nothing. Go back to bed.
Dakota: You're not going to kill it, are you?
Old man: It's a runt. Now go back to bed.
Dakota: No, it's not fair!
Old man: Hey --
Dakota -- It can't help being born small.
Old man: Careful.
Dakota: If I had been born small, would you have killed me?
Old man: Of course not. A little girl is one thing, but a rutting pig is another.
Dakota: There's no difference! This is unfair and unjust.

(The introduction)
Oprah: That was a scene from Charlotte's Web, in theatres December 15th. It's packed full of stars, including my friend Julia, who plays Charlotte, the spider. I play G-G-Gussy, the goose, and the delightful Dakota Fanning plays Fern. At just 12 years old, she's starred in more films than the number of years she's been alive. Take a look.
Born in Conyers, Georgia, Dakota's parents saw something special about their daughter early on. Little Dakota learned to read at the age of two and entered first grade when she was only four. As a preschooler, Dakota joined a local play house, and just one year later landed in a national Tide commercial. But Dakota's big break came when she was just seven years old and won the role of Lucy, opposite Sean Penn, in "I Am Sam." Audiences fell in love with her instantly. That year, she became the host [I'm not so sure on that one] of Tinseltown when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, making her the youngest ever to receive that honor. Her films have grossed over half a billion dollars and Entertainment Weekly even says that she may be one of the most powerful acresses in Hollywood.
Please welcome Dakota Fanning.

(The interview)
Oprah: Hi, it's good to see you again! Have a seat. It's good to see you again.
Dakota: It's good to see you, too! Thank you for having me.
Oprah: What was it like for you, having to play with all the animals? Because you've done everything, but...
Dakota: Well, I mean, just getting to play Fern is unbelievable, you know? In Charlotte's Web. It's incredible.
Oprah: Had you always loved the book?
Dakota: I had. I mean, Charlotte's Web.. it was one of my mom's favorite books, and Fern was her favorite character. So to get to play her favorite character, and, you know, in the last fair scene I have the little yellow dress and red ribbon. And my mom was crying when she saw it on me because she had read the book so many times and seen that in there, and to have me in the actual dress was really special.
Oprah: Oh. I'm moved by that too. How did you stay focused working with all the different pigs? Is it easy working with the pig?
Dakota: There were so many. There were like 50-60 pigs because we would get them when they were like a few weeks old and then they would grow up and get bigger, and so then you'd have to get new little ones. We were always getting new little pigs and they were growing up and getting too big and we'd have to find good homes for them and everything.
Oprah: Who's the voice of the pig? Do you know?
Dakota: It is a young boy named Dominic. He's so great.
Oprah: Yes, I thought he did a great job.
Dakota: Yeah, I think he's around my age.
Oprah: That's Dominic. He's around your age. Now, you've been making movies a long time. First of all, again, "I Am Sam" is one of my favorite movies because you were so fantastic with Sean Penn. You were so.. I don't know if you.. did you see "I Am Sam?" Have you ever seen it?
Julia: Brilliant.. and "Man on Fire," that's my favorite of Dakota's.
Dakota: Right.
Oprah: That I didn't see. I didn't see "Man on Fire." But I did fell in love with you. Was that your first movie, "I Am Sam?"
Dakota: Mmhmm. It was my first.. umm...
Oprah: Feature.
Dakota: Yeah, first feature film. I had done commercials and TV shows before that.
Oprah: And how old were you when you did that?
Dakota: I was six and I turned seven.
Oprah: You were six and turned seven. What do you do with all the money? All the loot?
Dakota: Nothing.
Oprah: Do you have an investment plan?
Dakota: No, I have none of that. I don't have --
Oprah: -- Do you get an allowance?
Dakota: No, I've never gotten an allowance. My parents never got an allowance when they were younger, so I've never really got one; never really wanted one.
Oprah: Okay, never wanted one.
Dakota: No.
Oprah: So what if you just want to buy something or need something? Do you just ask your mom or do you...?
Dakota: Yeah, she doesn't really buy any more than any normal mother would do. She always.. she saves things for Christmas.
Oprah: She saves things for Christmas. So is Christmas big at your house?
Dakota: We love Christmas.
Oprah: Yeah.
Dakota: Yes, we love Christmas.
Oprah: Are you going to have a big Christmas, Julia? Because now they're going to be almost two.
Julia: Yeah, well, it'll be.. I think next year it'll be the real comprehension of what's going on and I'm just trying to make them understand their birthday.
Oprah: Because they don't get that yet. Maybe at two they will.
Julia: Yeah, well, I've been going over it and so, Hazel, whenever I say, "It's your birthday," which I read in O Magazine that they show airs on their birthday.
Oprah: Yes.
Julia: She says, "Pink balloons, mommy?" So she's going to get a pink balloon for her birthday.
Oprah: Pink balloons, that's what she wants. While Charlotte's Web took nearly three years to complete and 50-60 pigs, as she was saying, when you literally moved Heaven and Earth to make this movie happen. The movie was given the green light in the dead of winter, so filming shifted to the only spot on the planet where film makers thought they could still shoot: the changing seasons. Look at what happened.

(Oprah's voice over the second movie clip)
Cast and crew endured the worst storm to hit Melbourne, Australia in 156 years. Flooding on the set forced production to shut down for days. To make matters worse, unusually cold air stripped all of the trees on the set so crews had to attach thousands of delicate, green silk leaves by hand. Because of the long days of shooting, the real people on the ferris wheel had to be replaced with blow-up dolls. And the animals were an entirely different feist. They had to be primped, charmed, and coddled. The geese despised the other animals and kept biting the poor cows and sheep, so their scenes had to be shot separately, sometimes with stand-in puppets. Lives snakes made their way into the barn and had to be rooted out with a snake wrangler every morning. Even the animated animals were a challenge. Creators went through several versions before finally settling on the perfect look. In the end, it took a whopping 41 days to complete just one scene!

(The second part of the interview)
Oprah: That's unbelievable!
Dakota: Yeah.
Oprah: That was a long shoot.
Dakota: It was. I had just gotten there after the big storm happened, but it was really bad.
Oprah: Oh, my goodness.
Dakota: And then the big corn field that you saw.. we had the beautiful corn field and huge corn and one day.. you come around the curve when you see the whole set, and we came around the curve and all the corn was gone.
Oprah: Why?
Dakota: Died!
Oprah: Because of the cold?
Dakota: It had froze.
Oprah: The frost? Yes.
Dakota: Yeah, that was so sad! Stewart, the production guy, was crying. He was like, "My corn! Nooo!" It was so green, and then it was so brown.
Oprah: So what did they do? They brought in corn?
Dakota: Well, they just kind of worked around it because then there was something that winter or fall...
Oprah: Can you imagine the production manager when he walks in and all the corn's gone?
Dakota: Just so sad.
Oprah: I wanted to tell you. You left a gift for me and I thought that was the coolest. Can I show the people?
Dakota: Yeah, sure!
Oprah: I brought it down just in case you said it was okay. This is what she brought for me today. I thought this would be Fern and the little pigs and the ducks. This is a Madame Alexander Doll. This is what she brought for me. Look at this! This is the coolest. I will keep it forever. It's d-d-darling. Th-th-th-thanks!
Dakota: You're welcome!
Oprah: Th-th-thanks!
