Why can't Black shows get a series finale episode?!

Question: I just found out CW TV show Girlfriends has been cancelled and Monday's episodes was it's last. There are only a few Black TV shows which have had a proper farewell. How come Black TV shows do not get proper series finales?

not just black shows there have been plenty of shows that did not get the respect they deserved look at gunsmoke almost 30 years and no farewells, all in the family, and i remember good times having a good farewell

How come everything with black people always has to be a racial issue? That show Girlfriends, SUCKED!

I don't know, I was talking to my mum about that the other day. It just isn't fair, but i guess thats just the way it is.

Well it depends if a show, any show, signs off at the end of the season or not. Really any show that is canceled in the middle of the season doesn't get to say goodbye.

But a good final episode at the end of the season would be up to those who make it and if they made one.

Producers usually base their decisions on financial considerations. If there is not enough audience demand for a finale, and they can't get sponsors to pay enough for commercial slots for a particular series finale, then why bother? Who know, just guessing. I am surprised it'd just quit all of a sudden. Must be some underlying reason involved. (?) Another thought, do people who watch Girlfriends get attached to the characters and therefore feel they need to say goodbye (thru the tv), or do they enjoy the show but not really get emotionally involved with the characters/story line? I don't think it's just "black shows." however.

I loved Girlfriends, but it wasn't the same after Jill Marie Jones left the show. It sucks that we won't get to see it end. Instead we get to be left in the dark.

It's not just black shows that don't get proper series finales. There are plenty of shows that don't feature an all black cast that didn't get a proper sign off.

I agree with you, PeachPie (except the the sucked part), and Patch. But the only thing we can really do as fans is to write in to the network and demand a proper ending. If enough fans write in, the network will reconsider. Prime example, Jericho on CBS. It was canceled and brought back to life due to the overwhelming response from it's fans.

Cosby had several shows that had good endings and The Jamie Foxx show did a series finale.

Many shows end the season with every intention of coming back but for some reason arent renewed. Therefore, no series finale. Look at continued shows like Lost in Space, Drive and even the reality series Pirate Master was cut with no ending.

And any show canceled mid season isnt going to have a finale. In fact, often they have unaired episodes that later end up on the dvd.

While most series finales just wind up with someone moving on or giving up the business, some have been memorable.
More people watched the final episode of MASH than the superbowl. And Cheers, night court and Newhart all had great endings.
