Do you think professional wrestling, specifically the WWE, is a bad influence on!

Question: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ikDXcfzA848

There are two sides to every story. One side says that it is all in good fun, fake, and a marketing tool. Another says its a negative influence on teenagers (and although its not included in this video a recent study shows that teenage GIRLS who watch professional wrestling were more likely to get into fights with other girls and engage in dating violence on their boyfriends).

Also, I've noticed the WWE's "storylines" contain a lot of anti-gay humor, actions and remarks as well as many ethnic and racial stereotypes (Cryme Tyme, Eddie Guerrero when he wrestled, Carlito, Tajiri, for instance).

What's your stance? Good humor and fun or negative impact?

Its really hard to draw the line here. When you break it down almost everything in the world can be a negative influence on children or teenagers today. If you are going to categorize wresting under that, you may as well add music, movies, video games, and so on to the list of negative influences. The sad thing is, many children and teenagers will see things worse then that in real life.

yes

Good humor. Given the straitjacket of society's mores and political correctness, people need an outlet to blow off steam.

It can go either way. If you are a mature adult who understands it's completely fake, then it has no impact. If you are a child who is easily influenced, then it's probably not a good idea to watch it.

Probably more bad. I don't pay much attention to wrestling.

I don't have a stance on WWE. I'd have to throw in a curve ball and mention the popularity of UFC and mixed martial arts taking over and drowning the more subdued wrestling shows. If that's not a cry for help I don't know what is. This country wants blood and beat downs. All America wants is reality and violence..its a negative impact. But who cares..it will never stop. We just have to learn to contain it and live with it.

Two sides to the story?

Please show me any evidence whatsoever that any aspect of it is at all healthy/positive or in anyway "good" for anyone?

It's sex, violence, drugs, stereotypes, did I mention violence?
Poorly written/staged drama and more violence.

The only reason to be drawn to such a thing is if there are pre-existing issues such as violence, poor self image , lack of parental involvement, etc. in one's life.

Finding something entertaining does not make that thing "good". Which for the record, I do not! lol

I used to love it but in the last ten or so years its just gone mental - in a bad way. They've changed their target audience to 20 year old men. Recently I saw a list of WWE wrestlers who have died young in the last three years and was absolutely amazed at who was all on it. That's not unrelated to the new image.
