Is MTV hypocritical?!

Question: They put on all of these social, poverty, STD awareness articles and movements onto their website (notice that they rarely make it onto the TV). However, they have shows such as Cribs, The Real World, and especially My Super Sweet 16 on their channel. Instead of promoting and glorifying spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a birthday party (not to mention being greedy and having to "one up" the last guy) shouldn't they be promoting and glorifying those teens who are actually contributing to our society, trying to change our world.

Not only that...but what happened to the music? Oh wait, they play 20 seconds of a song between shows. Excuse me.

What do you guys think?

I agree. Mtv got in trouble once about promoting bad behavior and teensex, so they strating posting those awareness ads to satisfy some of those people. I don't even know why Mtv has multiple channels, they show reruns so much they could put them all on one channel. Mtv is trying to degenerate society and young people.

MTV isn't near what it used to be - it totally stinks! MTV stands for MUSIC TV, but they've changed ALOT over the years since the '80s, when MTV meant what it stands for. I mean, what happened to all the videos? They USED to play videos when they first aired, but now? Forget it -nothing but garbage! VH-1 has followed in their footsteps - USED to be great, but now it's garbage as well.

I agree!

I hate how they try and promote tolerance, yet have shows like Next where they are so shallow..."I don't want any fat chicks!"

its true! obviously they are more concerned with making money than changing the world through the role it has in my generations lives. this is probably why Americans look so bad because a lot of people want to get better things in life and they dont care who they step on.

i agree, but they are only showing what teenagers want to watch and the hot thing is shallow reality bs. however i believe they should not be able to air these kind of shows it just tells our children that it is ok to be like that.

You're right. I'm in my mid-30s so I see through the shallowness of their shows and just watch them for laughs, but if I had kids, I'd be concerned about them watching Sweet 16 and thinking that I needed to spend $$$ on a party or that I'm obligated to buy them a car.

I miss the videos. They have them on in the morning when I'm getting ready for work.
