Why do dislike certain characters (ie - liz gh)?!
Question: i was just wondering what makes you hate certain characters. is it the actor/actress or is it just the way the story is written. sometimes you get caught up in the story and forget that these are just some really good actor/actress that make you feel the way you do. for me most of the time it's the writers.

I think it is the writing, for me anyways. I have always loved Liz, I've watched her from that sweet girl to a good woman, and I really don't know how anyone can pick on her so much, she hasn't done a lot of the horrible things others have done. Sure she had 2 one night stands and lied about the baby, to protect it, as a mom, I get that. I used to love Sam, but the writers ruined her. I like the actress and I think hating a character has to do with the job the actress is doing as well. If they can make you hate or like them, they are doing their job in my opinion. The writers have made Carly CRAZY, seriously that woman needs psychiatric help! To obsess over another person baby like that. I admit I do get caught up in my shows but not like some and there are some who can't distinguish reality! My husband always makes fun of me saying "honey, it's just a show!" But it's all in the fun about it to me, it makes me forget about problems and my life for a little bit to relax and have fun. Sometimes part of that fun is gripping about them!
her holier then thou attitude. I hate liz myself. she is a bit on the hypocritical side.

I can't stand Erica Kane. I know she is an icon. But her acting is terrible and her character is even worse.
It's almost always the writers that make me hate characters. If the actors are really abysmal, I won't care enough about the characters to hate them -- unless they're onscreen all the time despite their portrayers' lack of ability (like Leyla), but even that is a writing issue.
Conversely, I'm able to overlook the misdeeds of some characters (like Nancy Lee Grahn's Alexis or Sebastian Roche's notJerry) more easily than I normally would because the actors do such a phenomenal job selling the storyline. But really great actors are few and far between, so for the most part everything really hinges on the writing.
hmmm. i can't stand blair on one life. she used to be asian and then they bring on this country white chick (have nothing against the woman, she's actually a good actress), who's character is such a whiny brat, that i can't help but not like the character. i can distinguish b/w the character and the person. also, sam on gh. gets on my nerves to high heaven. actually, i think gh writes most of their women in a way that makes you want to punch them in their face. carly- annoying as hell. robin- too whiny, liz- too undecided, maxie- holier than thou ****, and the list goes on.
i think rebecca i cute when she isnt wearing dark lip stick and her hair isnt a mess. i kidding she is a very pretty lady. i used to like liz but i never liked her relationship with jason even in the early days when they 1st changed lucky after helena kidnapped him. my dislike for the character grew more an more as she got closer to jason. so my answer would have to be its the sl written for the character liz that turned me against her. i dont get how she can do such horrible things and still viewed as the perfect lil innocent 1. if another character on the soap did the things liz has done for the last 2 yrs every1 would hate her. and even tho i used to like liz i have never scene her as a strong woman. sam is stronger than she is. but then again rebecca and kelly have to be good actresses to pull off their roles so well and have the fans split bw them. its a show, they are acting so i have nothing against any of the actors.

Its the writers fault why we dislike certain characters ie GH Liz; the actress is very good at her job but the script makes her out to look like a hypocrite and annoying, same goes for all the other characters, we go from liking them to hating them cuz of the storyline. The only actress that I hated was the woman who played Carly on GH before this current one, y'know the one that looked like a crackaddict transvestite and I hated her cuz of her bad acting.

It's the writers for me. I used to love Sam until they began bashing her and have never stopped. I found myself hating her. It's all about the storylines as well. I love Sonny but he is so boring now, but think that will soon be changing.
I can't stand Sam from GH. Kelly Monaco is an amazing actress but the writers have ruined Sam's character. I now look at her as nothing but a lying hypocrite who continues to make excuses for her mistakes.
Sometimes it is the actor or actress-like anything else it's just personal likes or dislikes about the way someone looks or acts. But mostly it's the writing. The writers can make or break a character. Like Sam, we all knew she was a con artist when she came on the show, but we didn't care. She lost a baby and we felt for her. She loved her mentally disabled brother and we felt for her. But then the writers started showing us this mean,spiteful side of her and we didn't like her so much. Now on the flip side, the writers seem determined to redeem her by making her a victim again.Liz has always been a good friend and a Hardy granddaughter so we liked her. We hurt for her when she was raped and when Lucky was thought to be dead and when Lucky left her at the alter and when Rick was so bad to her--but now that writers are finally giving her a little spark,no more doormat, we don't like her. It's confusing!
