American Idol: About those singers coming to the auditions in costume?!
Question: Does anyone recall if they ever picked someone to go to Hollywood who wore a costume or had a gimmick?
I've only been watching since last year, and it seems like all those people who come to the auditions wearing a costume are simply awful!

Well, most people with real talent do not dressed in silly costume. They are serious about the audition. Maybe they didn't want their costume to distract or attract more attention that it should.
So now that its a norm for good singer to dress properly, its almost like an unwritten rule that you should dressed properly if you're serious about it, because strange costume will give you a bad first impression even before you sing
People just think they're funny
no, the people who do that do it just to be on TV, or to try and get some producer to notice and cast he/she into the producer's show.
Not that I can recall. I think they just want to be noticed and have their 3 seconds in the spotlight. I suppose, too, that the producers think we viewers will find it amusing. I, for one, don't.
The thing that really upsets me is that they waste so much time on these talentless, schmucks and we rarely get to see the people who can sing their hearts out. That's the only thing that turns me off of the show because I really do think it is a great opportunity.
I used to think Simon was mean but know I see where he is coming from. Paula and Randy can sometimes be just as bad especially when they laugh in their faces (even though their "extremely horrible" voices are funny).
Honestly some of these people don't have good friends or family because they allow them to make fools of themselves on TV.
