Childrens TV is not what it used to be.?!

Question: When I was a child I used to watch Tom and Jerry, road runner and cartoons like that with my Dad.

But I am saddened that when I looked at childrens television recently I saw a programme with characters singing about their lunch. Whats entertaining about that?

That was the whole show. I have to repeat this because I just can't believe it. Kids were singing about food. I just could'nt believe it. Then I channel hopped and all the rest of the childrens telly was similar to this.

What happened to cats and mice bashing each other and laying down traps that backfire? Don't they make shows like that anymore? I really think this was the only thing my Dad and I had in common as a child. He found it funner than me. I remember him laughing so hard he was crying. Now it annoys me a little bit that I won't be able to experience this with my own children someday. I could buy DVD's but theyll probably want to watch what their friends are watching. Rubbish!

I couldn't agree with you more! I remember me watching the Flinstones and other stuff and frankly I loved it, but now more and more shows are showing up with lousy themes and lousy ideas.
These new shows are supposed to be good for children's development because they are educational or something like that, but frankly I don't see how much can they learn from weird cartoons who sing about imagination and their lunch and whatnot. Educational for me was Sesame Street and that show kicked ***! xD
Another reason they don't make any more shows on the style of Tom & Jerry is because overprotecting parents thought that could be harmful to their kids because it could give them ideas like to play with knives and such violent acts, which I believe is complete nonsense. Most people from the age 12 and onwards (?) grew up like that, yet I don't see EVERYONE trying to stab each other. Sure theres one or two freaks who suddenly pop out of nowhere and shoot people, but I'm pretty damn sure its got nothing to do with what they saw on Tom & Jerry as a kid.

I agree. Modern Children's TV is for kids!

yes
but some shows on space r nice

To be fair, there was crap programs about singing when we were younger too, we just forget those and remember the good ones.

I hate today's kid cartoons. I've introduced my kids to the 'real' cartoons that you speak of. There is so much pop culture that revolves around these earlier cartoons, I want to give my kids a fighting chance to understand it in context.

I agree, nowadays its scary men in fluffy suits warning kids not to step on raspberry jam! It used to be good stuff like tom and jerry where kids could learn when yew hit a cat or mouse, they come back to life =] xx

tell me about it......I was crushed when the pink panther began to talk. ruined my whole image of him.
most of the stuff on now days is just grunge.

yeah i agree everythings intellectual nowadays! they are so politically correct when they have a programme they have to include a child from every culture and a few disabled kids thrown in too!
i mean come on the television companies are so patronizing!
our children dont need to watch tele to see other cultures all they have to do is walk outside.
bring back Tom and Jerry!!

They want to change the world and even stoop low enough to pick on children.

tom and jerry is stilll on

Couldn't agree more.

Try looking for a channel called Boomerang. They show all the decent stuff you mentioned - Tom & Jerry, Road Runner etc.
I introduced my kids to it, they love it, and we all have hysterics together.

the american kids programmes have invaded us .they are so naff those twins jake and josh i would love to bang there big heads together,my friends twins started school and the teacher thought they were american they picked up the accent they still have it ,bring back sooty ,rainbow
