Oh God, did anyone else weep buckets when watching tonight's episode of Torc!

Question: It was so sad:(

Please tell me that the British government didn't really kill soldiers for supposed 'cowardice' during the First World War.

I enjoyed last night's episode, and it was quite poignant, but it wasn't anywhere near as moving as some other similarly themed TV shows - the ending of "The Family of Blood" in the last series of Doctor Who for instance, or the ending of "Blackadder Goes Fourth".

But, yes, unfortunately, the British army didn't recognise the traumatic after effects of shell shock as a genuine condidtion in world war 1, and many shell shocked soldiers were shot for "cowardice" after returning to the trenches.

I would agree with Peter H, that last night's episode was the weakest of series 2 so far. It seemed more like a series 1 episode to me, in comparison to the suspense, excitement and sheer style of the last two episodes.

I did enjoy the quite unusual time travel aspect of the story (well unusual for TV anyway), and the clever way in which it was all resolved and tied up at the end. It was also interesting to see how Toshiko's moral dilemma in this week's episode contrasted with Jack and Gwen's moral dilemma in last week's. It just didn't catch my imagination as much as "Sleeper" did though, and it wasn't as exciting as the series 2 opener.

fraid so
and yes I wanted a happy ending too

Yes it was true. Some of them only 17/18.
It was a different age, no one understood the trauma these men and boys suffered at the 'front'. The psychological impact must have been horrendous.
A lot of those shot for so called 'cowardice' have recently been pardoned. At least their descendants can sleep easier now.

I know! And they're not cowards they can't help being shell shocked. I can't believe that this actually happened.

sadly it is true, the British Army did kill anyone seen as deserting the frontline when on active duty, if you were lucky enough not to be shot you were publicly outcast in society, they used to give you a yellow flower to wear instead of poppies on rememberance day.
As for crying, i didn't cry but i did feel upset but i'm like that over any leaving episodes, especially during last christmas's Doctor Who Xmas Special, i wept for hours and because i watched it 3 times (Repeats + On Demand) i was all cried out. :'( [Poor Bridget, she would have been the perfect companion]

Yes i did watch Torchwood last night and it was a very poor episode compered to the first two episodes of the second series.
I my opinion this episode was not edge of the seat or gritty in any way what so ever and disappointing.
Yes sorry to say the British Government did really kill soldiers for cowardice in WW1. Some now have been pardoned by the British Government, but it's far to little far to late in my opinion and should of happened at least Eighty years ago, Ten years after the war had finished.

If they're cowards, they deserve what they got.
