What are you doing now that there are reruns on TV and who hates the writers str!

Question: I spend my time in hotel rooms during the week and the only thing there is to do is watch television. Obviously due to the writers strike all there has been is reruns. I love it when the rich try to get richer. Cab drivers who make next to nothing a year are not allowed to strike, its illegal, but the writers of TV shows who i am sure are making a ton of money can go on strike for as long as they like

Who else thinks this sucks?

I hate it too, my favorite show is the Office and it hasnt been on in like 5 weeks. Just a typacal case of people wanting more than they need.

So, let them stay on strike. I don't watch TV anyway since I discovered Y A .

It sucks big time! I am watching a lot of sports and movies.

I learned to knit. And I support the writers over the obscenely rich studios that won't pay them for the additional income they receive via podcasts, downloads, and internet viewing. I just wish the studios wouldn't try to shove all this reality trash down our throars. They must really think we're stupid. I'd rather watch reruns.

Doesn't phase me at all. We don't have cable. Haven't had it since 2004.

You'd be surprised how much more time you have to read, talk, exercise, interact, pursue hobbies and participate in extra curricular activities when you aren't blobbed out in front of the TV.

Funny, some people say they are always "too busy", yet they have 15+ hours per week to watch TV.

Hmmm...

I think it is retarded... But unfortunately it is harder to find new writers then it is to hire new cab drivers...

You can get any "normal" person to drive... But it takes creativity that not many people have to write...

I am NOT taking their side... Just stating a fact.

I think they should all just be fired... If we could find new writers.

Or fire them all and make them come crawling back...

There are other career options to a writer but not that many...

This is why I love Discovery, History, and the Doc Channels...

Well, new shows are starting this week. Lost is on tomorrow night. I'm excited for Lipstick Jungle which starts next week. And I think the new season of The new adventures of old christine also starts soon. Plus, I have so many movies in my netflix queue. =)

It would be nice if writers did make a ton of money and were recognized for their abilities and creativity, but they don't and they aren't. Most salaried TV writers make around $60,000 to $80,000 per year, which isn't much in LA. Around 50% of the WGA is unemployed at any given time, and their mean annual income is a whopping $5,000.00. This is why residuals are so important. In general, writers aren't salaried. They get paid for what the produce. The way the system is supposed to work is that they get paid for resales, like when people buy DVDs. This is supposed to provide more of a financial reward to good writers, because more people buy the stuff they write. In reality, the screenwriter only gets four cents per DVD sale, and this amount has remained unchanged for 20 years. They get zero for streamed content or content downloaded via iTunes or similar online stores. They're being cheated. They deserve compensation for their work, just like the actors, directors and other creative people.. I think it sucks that the studio heads, who have an obscene amount of money, are not willing to pay the writers and have forced them into a position where they have no choice but to strike.

And BTW, cab drivers go on strike. The New York taxi drivers went on a two day strike in September, and again for 24 hours in October. See http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticN... for one article on the subject.

If you have nothing to do in the hotel, try taking a book. If you have a laptop with a DVD player, rent some DVDs or buy cheap ones and get a cable to connect the laptop to the TV so you can watch on the larger screen. If you have a video iPod, rip some DVDs, put them on the iPod and get a cable to connect it to the TV. As for me, I'm spending my time the same as ever- reading, writing, watching DVDs and catching up on stuff on the DVR.
