Matt, alternative comedy (my favorite stuff) and the more homogenized Mencia/Cook ilk have been at odds for years, but I have to confess, I don't get the whole us n' them thing.
Comedy's like jazz. The really adventurous stuff is amazing, mind-blowing work. The more corporate stuff still hits a good groove once in a while. And we all have our preferences.
In closing, however, I respectfully submit that I have never once laughed at a Carlos Mencia joke. God bless him, he's like the Kenny G of ethnic humor.

Yes. I like smart comedians. The dumb ones can just go away as far as I'm concerned. There was never a time that I wasn't tired of Dane Cook or Mencia. (My husband likes Dane but I don't find him funny.)
I agree about Dane Cook he sucks, Carlos Mencia on the other hand should be thanking Dave Chapelle for his lame tv show.
