From what I heard is they faught constantly even while filming the shows.
An intresting tidbit is if you have the show on your tv, turn away during one of Desi/Ricky's rants and you can actually hear anger in his tone. I learned that while watching a documentry years ago.
They were known to have VERY heated arguments. Guests in the hotel rooms next to theirs report hearing screaming and objects being thrown. However, they were very much in love, and it is widely believed that their careers in entertainment was the source of their problems. They never truly got over each other. It was told by witnesses that Lucy said on her death-bed that she was going to finally be with Ricky forever in the afterlife.
I've always heard that in real life, Desi cheated constantly and that while filming the final episodes of the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour, Lucille Ball and Desi weren't even on speaking terms.
They had a love hate relationship. They say she never got over when he died even though she was remarried and she died of a broken heart.
Lucy had to love Ricky, because they had a baby together, Desi Arnaz Jr.
I think that they were just acting on the Lucy/Desi Comedy hour.
