Question: A few years ago there was a detective series on, placed in Florida, about a female detective named Sidney Brisco. She had a real close relationship with her dad, who I think was widowed and had been a detective himself, when he was younger. What I can't remember is the name of the series... I think is was on USA, but can't be sure.

It only lasted a few months. It was a lot like you describe and was based on a book.
The character's name was Sydney Bristow, and the show was "Alias" starring Jennifer Garner.
Would you by any chance be referring to the Sydney Bristow character on the spy series "Alias," played by Jennifer Garner? That was ubiquitous for years . . . it ran on ABC. Unless you're referring to a different series altogether . . .
well, unless there is another series with a similar name-all you got right was the daughter and father. He was widowed (until later in the series you find out otherwise) and she blamed him for her mother's death...he was a double double agent-working for the US agency as a double agent in the counter US agency who thought he was working with the US agency as a double agent for them. Follow that? It was quite a plot.
