Ruben and Taylor have been dropped by their record contracts. Kellie Pickler and Clay Aiken weren't winners, but are doing very well. Clay's on Broadway now.

American Idol in a way is a scam. They basically "own" these artists, and think that all that is needed to promote them is the show itself. From my understanding lots of them, with the exception of Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia have been dropped from their labels.
Kelly Clarkson, yes.
Ruben Studdard I just read his record label dumped him.
Fantasia is on Broadway, last I heard.
Carrie Underwood, yes.
Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee just recently got dumped by their labels.
Jordan Sparks is the recent winner so she hasn't had time to make it big with her CD yet.

Kelly, Jordin, and Carrie for sure are still around. I haven't heard from Reuben or Fantasia for a while and I've never heard any of Taylor's ongs.
