Why are some faces on COPS and similar shows edited, and some not?!

Question: Is it because the case hasn't been closed yet? I know that sometimes the faces are scrambled or fuzzed out, and sometimes not. Or is it because some gave permission? Do they even ask them?

This has been bothering me since the last time I saw COPS, roughly 5 years ago.

Thanks all!

The people have to sign a waiver saying the program can show there face. It is like that with pretty much any other also. I saw a show on Cops and they said that most of the suspects actually want to be on t.v. like it is cool or something.

because all people who appear on t.v. must sign a waiver. it states that you give them the right to display your face on national t.v. if you don't sign you get the blur

I agree with the previous answerers, a waiver has to be signed. But really, you have to be a real jackass to want to be shown arrested on tv. Sorry, it's not "cool" or "fun". Considering most of these people are redneck, white trash people, why, why show your pathetic life to the world? I know I'd be embarrassed and would want them to just not show me at all, blur my entire body along with the shithole that I live in (if I lived in one). People are pathetic and act like they're going to be famous for being arrested. But with any idiot with no talent whatsoever becoming famous these days, I'm not at all surprised.

Why have the blurry faces on Cops bothered you for five years?

I hope this problem hasn't caused the rest of your life to stall.
