For me, it's the Simpsons because nothing came before it in terms of original humor, redirecting famous issues and people of our time down humorous avenues, and vastly surpassing all cartoon shows before and even after it in terms of duration and staying power. I mean, hell, the move just came out this past year!

Yes, I agree the Simpsons as I own everything simpsons all the boxsets, etc. HOWEVER, and I'm going to earn myself some thumbs down here but i'm saying it anyway. I think Lost is definitley the best show ever. I love the Simpsons and watch them every single day but Lost always keeps me distracted from the daily BS in my life and always has good plots and surprises.

Well in my point of view I will have to say making the band 4, it is a singing copetition to find the best male singers from all around.
Some great shows get cancelled because they are cotroversial. One was called Buffallo Bill about a News Man (DabneyColeman) in Upstate New York and it was great and it covered contemporary issues besides being hillarious.
The main character's girlfriend decided to have an abortion and the next week it was re-runs of What's Happening.
I also liked a really stupid show in the 60s called It's about Time. I still remember the song I think it ran 5 weeks. Sid Caesar, Mel Brooks, Imogene Coco.
The Sha Na Na show was excellent too It fot cancelled after one season but due to a letter writing campaign was re-instated for 3 more seasons. I saw them at Woodstock. All were Calssically trained musicians from Juliard. My kids were babies then and loved them more than Scooby Doo.
Now I like all of the Law and Order series and Dexter,Califonication, The L Word, Big Love, Not so many others. The HBO In Treatment sounds like it will be good

All In The Family. It pushed the limits of what could be seen on television. It was the first show where you heard a toilet flushing. The characters argued about social issues.
Roseanne, for the same reason. Before her show, three-dimensional characters were rare on sitcoms.

For volume of quality shows I would also pick the Simpsons.
Mash was always a show that I enjoy watching too.
the best show with no doubt is prison break and no other series!!!!I mean there are the best actors(Dominik purcell,sarah wayne callies,amaury nolasco,robert knepper,wentworth miller,william fichtner....),the storyline is amazing and has everything for every taste(suspense,drama,action,comedy,crime... and the music is touching and unbeatable...therefore I don't watch other series....prison break is enough because it has everything!^^

Arrested Development is my favorite.
If they would have canceled the Simpsons in about 1999, when it stopped being funny, it would have been the best ever.
