Old MTV or New MTV?!
Question: I watched the old MTV through the eighties and real early nineties, the MTV now is pitiful, they hardly play music, it's mainly a bunch of stupid reality shows, The Old MTV was diverse, they played all kinds of music (except country).

The great thing about the old MTV, even though a lot of it was before my time, they presented a diversity of music.
From what I know and hear, they played Grunge (during the seattle hype period), metal, pop, and Rock and gave each of these genres an equal amount of respect.
Also I miss some of the shows they had on thre during the late 90's that I liked to watch. God, I miss Beavis and Butthead....
Now MTV, like the expression goes, is a one-note insturment always playing the same stuff. MTV should be representative, of various different cultures, and musical backrounds. All I see if I turn on MTV (which is almost never), is all the same superficial crap. (ex: really cheezy dating shows, gangster shows,...)
I'dd say today"s MTV is even having a bad influence on the younger generation. MTV is basically showing to a whole age group what is cool, how to act, and seting a whole superficial fashion trend to those who are sucked in.
Everything they show on MTV is fake, the musicians (in general) are fake, and not showing much musical talent also.
Now some versions of MTV are a little more tasteful, but otherwize all I think when I see MTV now-a-days is "a bunch of bullshit"
deffinately old Mtv.like you said,they actually played music,and loved the old head bangers ball! They should of stuck with Remote Control as thier only extra show! I dont even bother to watch anymore,VH1 is alittle better

old MTV for sure. The new MTV is nothing but one big commercial. At this point I have my cable box programmed to skip over it. It's just not worth viewing anymore.
I'm old enough to remember the premiere of MTV in the early 80's. 24 hours of music videos with a special here or there. It was wonderful. I have nothing against change, but
if they are going to be a reality show network, then they really should change their name.
I agree...MTV used to be only music, and now its all this reality crap. There is one solution to this problem, but you might have to pay extra for it. If you have "advanced" cable, or have a cable box, MTV has about 3-4 extra channels that ONLY play music. There's one with 80's and 90's music, one with newer, and a couple others. Hope this helps!
Old Mtv!! I want my (old) Mtv back! yeah the current Mtv sucks!! nothing but Reality tv. They should change it to Reality tv and be done with it.
I watch a lot of VH1 classic. They have Metal Mania which is basically like the Headbanger's Ball from back in the day. MTV2 has a new Headbanger's Ball with today's metal.
Old MTV was the BEST.
If MTV wants to do reality, then they should take que from Fox and create an MTV Reality Channel, like Fox Reality.

I wouldn't know what the old MTV was like b/c im only 15, but I like MTV It cool to wacth and the shows are awesome.
new mtv sucks. that's why i always watch vh1 classic just to see videos and hear music. it's such a shame that they don't play music. and then they started mtv2 for that purpose and mtv2 sucks now too!
