What is up with all the Whitmey Houston, Stevie Wonder, and Mariah Carey songs o!
Question: If I hear one more contestant sing a song by one of those artists I am going to scream. Why? Why does everyone pick the songs from those three people? there are literally millions of songs to choose from (during auditions, you can sing wahtever you want) so please someone explain it to me because I don't understand.

People think it'll impress the judges more if they have a difficult song to sing. In the end, it just makes things harder for the people.
those are the music industry's preconception of "great" voices so they wanna do the best they can to show off their voices
They are given a list of selected materials they can choose from, and i guess Mariah, Stevie and Whitney songs are on the list.
