What was/is your favorite tv show that actually had some serious topics?!

Question: I LOVE 'The George Lopez Show'. I'm a big fan of his stand-up work and His show was real. I love it. Too bad it was cancelled for that stupid show, 'Cavemen'.

I also liked 'M*A*S*H'. It was really cool. Not as funny as it was real and important. The episodes where someone had to leave or someone who everyone knew died... wow!

Hi! First off I have to agree with your sentiment--too bad G.L. was cancelled for cavemen!!!

M*A*S*H is my all time favorite show, and for the very reason you said, it was hilarious AND YET dealt with actual problems. One of my favorite episodes uses humor to drive home a point about prejudice. A soldier comes through and needs a blood transfusion. He says to Hawkeye, "Make sure you don't give me any of that darkie blood," which of course infuriates Hawkeye. They pull a prank on him so that when he comes out of surgery, he believes he got "non-white" blood and his skin is becoming darker. By the end, he starts to realize that skin color isn't an indicator of what's inside, and he salutes a black lieutenant as he leaves the camp.

M*A*S*H was a pretty progressive show because tackled a lot of issues before other shows were willing to even touch them---and in a way that was respectful---issues like prejudice, homosexuality, anti-war were all in there. You laughed but you had to think, too.

Another show I enjoyed quite a lot was NYPD Blue. It didn't glorify the blood and guts in the way that some of the shows do now---but it didn't downplay the danger and violence of living in the city, either. I loved all the actors in that show, but especially Sipowitz and Esai Morales' character, the last lieutenant.

House and Scrubs
Sometimes Family Guy has serious topics but they just make fun of it.

the practice

Family Gut, South Park, House, Power of 10, or Steve Wilkos.

I like house and scrubs mainly.

M*A*S*H is probably one of my favorite shows of all time. It's kind of weird, because the show ended the same year I was born. I love it though. I used to drive my parents crazy, becuse I would watch it all the time growing up. I still catch it now and then whenever it's on Nick-at-Night. I agree, the show was about real and important topics. I think one of my favorite episodes is when Hawkeye lost his eyesight. It was just so real and human.

My favorite current show is House. It not just pointless dribble. It shows real human reactions to addiction, and to real medical issues. Hugh Laurie is an amazing actor, and he excels in this show. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
