Bob Newhart wakes up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette and tells her that he just had the strangest dream where he owned an inn in Vermont, and tells her all about the other characters in the show.
What made the ending so great was that Suzanne Pleshette (who just passed away a few days ago) played his wife on a previous show of his called The Bob Newhart Show, and the bedroom they are in when he wakes up was their bedroom from that old show.
i can't be completely sure, but i think that all that happened in the show, throughout their 8 seasons had been a dream bob newhart had been having all along
