Well, I have a master's degree and a beautiful family and I enjoy SOME reality programs - Top Chef, Project Runway, Dancing with the Stars, and guilty pleasures like Celebrity Apprentice, Miss America Reality Check and Jon and Kate + 8.
I think your question and description are very negative a biased. Not all reality programs are dribble....but there are a lot of them on tv that I wouldn't watch if they were the only show on TV.
Hmmm....Since I don't really drink I guess I'm not an alcoholic, and last time I checked I had some friends, and not all the shows above feature celebs so I guess I'm not trying to connect with them......I don't think I'm sad but I'm having trouble typing with all the tears pouring down (LOL!)...

And if you think the people who watch reality tv are sad people, and the kind you wouldn't want to associate with, why are you asking them for their opinions by posting a question in an area frequented by reality tv fans???
I believe most people love reality shows
Lonely and nosey ones, I think. That alone doesn't necessarily make them sad, in my opinion.

Anyone who enjoys those shows. It's the same as asking what kind of person likes sit-coms or documentaries, etc.
i think those who are really bored of saas bahu serials they do watch reality programs. reality shows have real drama and masala. i also love watching these shows.

very bored people, it is good to say people who are usually airbrushed look nasty thou (gives people a confidence bost)
I think people who live in a dream.....no...on my opinion,they are fulfilling their emptiness watching successful and dangerous things others are doing...
Bored ones who have nothing better to do with their time. I only watch ones where people are getting a reward for be less fortunate for some reason or another as I get happy when I see them happy.

Hard bitten, brain dead chavs would be my guess who watch such dross. The biggest portion of them will be female as well.Most men are not interested in childish prattle between saddoes wanting to be famous and who have no talent whatsoever.
With the masses watching such stupefying drivel, this Government can carry on stealing all our hard fought for rights.

As far as I know, there is a big difference:
Some people I know watch "reality" shows, but only because they think it's fun. Here, it's not a special "kind of people", but elders, kids, and teenagers.
But IMHO mostly the less educated watch on the edge of their seats and sympathize with the actors... I'm sorry but watching something like "big brother" and taking it seriously is just... "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"?
Well I am certainly not lonely and not without friends!!! I enjoy watching different reality programmes for different reasons. I love Dancing on Ice for example because I love the skating and watching the celebrities improve each week, watching Torville and Dean skate. I watch BB because I enjoy studying people and how they interact, how their behaviour changes over time. Nothing to do with 'connecting'!!!

mostly people who like soap opera's, not all reality tv. is scripted, isn't boxing a reality t.v show how about football? akc championships is real, on hot guys that cook, they show guys cooking recipes I can try at home ... whats wrong with that? on dress my nest or property virgins, they give information on buying real estate and designing, I guess it depend on which reality show you are watching the olympics is a reality show, they do back ground stories usually sad ones just like on american idol, and they you watch the person pass or fail at the race or singing what ever they are doing. its the same to me. some peopl don't watch the news because the news is reality tv isn't it? I dont watch the news because it is always bad and so sad. the news is always about death and dying. some people don't watch t.v at all or don't own one. how do they get their information on time in case of severe weather changes or any other warnings.

I love, its a real passion of mine. I'm not sad or without friends. In fact I feel I have made a lot of friends through reality TV. I've made them through Y!A becuase we have a lot of 'rtv regulars' and we are all one big clique together.
We are also all very different ages and backgrounds.
I'm just a school girl whereas others are adults, and some parents. We are a mix of male and female as well.
I've never watched it to connect with the celebrities - and yes we all think they are Z-listers too half the time , moaning about them is half the fun. I more watch it to have things in common with people - to be able to talk about it.
I feel there are lots of different types of viewers of Reality Television. And I am definately a viewer.
Different kinds of people watch it . There is no specific group of people.
