Can you Manufacture a Star?!?!

Question: With the beggining of "American Idol" starting for another year in the States and "Dancing on Ice" here in the UK in full swing(amongst numerous other's!),

Does it really work?,...Or is it just Entertaining TV for us viewers to watch and for the TV Networks to cash in on contestant's high hopes and vunerabilities?

If it's so easy for the likes of Simon Cowell to perfect, then can it be done by anyone at home watching,...meaning you...reading this?

What does everyone think?

Stars can be manufactured for sure. But not by way of American Idol or similar contests. Almost all of the Idol winners have disappeared into obscurity. Strangley enough, a couple of runner-ups have done well. Manufactured stars seldom ever have the "staying power" required to really make it for the long haul.

Look at some of the poor, but popular, actors/actresses coming out of Hollywood these past few years. The "babe factor" has gotten old. Paris Hilton who is "cute" and others like her are in the news all the time and that can't do anything -- that is, act, sing, etc. They're just "famous for being Famous." One real class act that is attractive, but not a sex-pot is Cate Blanchett, a truly great actress - she IS Elizabeth I.

Actually, many of the best actors and actresses of all time have come from your country......let's see......Vivan Leigh, Sir Laurence Olivier', Anthony Hopkins, Dame Judi Dench, Jane Seymour (wow,) and many many more. You mentioned Cowell, that our loss, your win. He's an arrogant fool that gives a bad name to some of the wonderful folks in the UK.

There are a number of other GREAT British actors/actresses too whose names are not familiar to the public - probably not even in the UK. All of those folks who have performed over and over in many BBC-sponsored mini-series, are superb.

Good Question - here's a "star" for you,

Regards,

Gary

do we really think that these posers are "stars...?"

Well I don't.

I just think its fun to watch and some contestants ie on the xfactor have really got what it takes to have a career in the showbiz industry (like shayne ward). its nice to see people living their dreams

You will never get true talent from any of these shows unless they are assessed on some competency-based marking guide. There will always be votes for those who people 'like' who are not necessarily the best singers, dancers etc

I honestly think they know who the winner is before the programme comes out on air to be honest. They see thousands of people in auditions well not the judges they are screened three times before if they are lucky to get in front of a judge.
The reason I say they know is because how come the people who are in last three have been trying for years to get where they are. They have been to stage school and all sorts and very rare someone makes it without this back ground.
Leona Lewis has an amazing voice however money was poured into her BEFORE X Factor and she got no where because to be frank she has personality of a nat!! (seen her live)
So enter her into X Factor and BINGO!
I love reality and shows like this but I am under no illusion they are rigged so never vote!!

Well you do need a gigantic hydrogen cloud that collapses to begin the process of nuclear fusion. Ah you mean x-factor. Most of today's "stars" are manufactured. They will have initial success, but because they can't compose, play an instrument or in some cases sing they have a very short shelf life. Cowell does not care a *hit about these people. It is, as it always has been in the music bizz, about MONEY!

a very small number of acts make it through the system.and even less make an impact on the music industry.[wannabe/s might be/s could be/s one hit wonder be/s.and of course S.D.what happened to those two?

Stars? The only way any of them will become stars is if they volunteer for a space probe.
