Dr Phil not licensed in California?????!
Question: MSNBC is reporting that Dr. Phil is being investigating by the State of CA because he isn't licensed to practice psychology there....so ....is he even legally allowed to have a show??? (it tapes in hollywood..) And isn't this perhaps something SOMEONE should have checked out at some point?? If your endorsed by Oprah....does that mean NOONE checks to see if you're even freaking licensed?!?!?!?!?

His show is sensationalist entertainment, not therapy, but he certainly tries to give the impression of being a legitimate psychologist, disclaimers or no. Actually, I doubt he could get licensed in California after Texas revoked his license. The main reason he is in TV is because he can't be in private practice any more. And the main reason he keeps goofy little Robin so prominently displayed is to try to erase the public memory of the allegations of inappropriate professional conduct that caused him to be censured in the first place.
I believe you are right that this type of exploitative pseudo-psychology could do a lot of harm to patients who are truly mentally ill, such as Britney Spears. Her family is outraged at his uncalled-for intrusion.
He's not licensed to counsel anyone privately. He can still have his show because it reaches a wider audience for free, and it disclaims that anyone who decides to take his advice should visit their own medical professional first.
I think the network he works for should have checked for that as well as he himself. Just watch, it will be a quick fix, he will get his license and pay the possible fines and everything will get swept under the carpet. He has the money to do it and so does Fox.
I did hear about his sexual harassment suit some years ago, It is sort of hard to believe that he would do something like that he seems to be so much in love with Robin.
He has perhaps let success get to his head, but really I believe that he had good intentions when he went to see
Britteny Spears.
