About soap operas?!
Question: is it more about talent or looks for the actors. i mean marcie looks like the rest of us but how can we be expected to believe susan lucci is in her 50s. i would rather watch regular looking people its just so easy now to look like everyone else, does anyone else feel like this.

It seems that talent has nothing to do with anything when choosing the newest "sorority house" fillers on Days of our Lives. It may also work that way with other soaps.
Each year we get a batch of teens who look cute but can't act.
I'd rather watch the vets any day. ;)
they bought marcie on for that purpose, to show a more relatiable character. to show theyre not all looks and what not. i personally agree they should have more average joes on the show. but ifyou ever watched the soapnet show to become a the next soap star you would see that looks was a big part of who they kept and who they sent home.
Well it USED to be Talent- back in the days when most soap actors were Seriously Trained Theater actors ( most soaps were made in NYC at that time)
Now they hire mostly Models with little Drama/acting training because they "look' the part- soaps are now geared to the 18-34 yr olds because it's those viewers the Advertisers want.
I have been watching soaps for 36 yrs and often can tell if a young actor/actress has had some good Theater/Acting training-there are a few but not that many anymore.

It seems to be more about looks on some shows. Some of the people they hire, you wonder what on Earth they were thinking. Looks doesn't mean squat when it comes to talent but unfortunately soemtimes it is overlooked!
i agree with u some what. i like that there is marcie on oltl and ashley on gl. there used to be nina on y&r yrs ago. we need more "normal looking women" the average woman is a size 12. and tho soaps arent about reality and is suppose to be about escapism do we really want to escape into a world where all the women are size 0? i think it contributes to the wrong image young women have about themselves, that being stick thin skinny is the way to be. they should really do more to have women of all shapes and sizes on alot of the shows not jus soaps.
on the other hand(i see thumbs down coming my way for this) when it comes to the guys i like them tall, well built and wearing as lil as posible in every epi. i dont care about race or age, they jus have to be everything i mentioned and be cute. most guys dont regularly watch soaps so to me its ok if they look for more hotter looking guys than girls per se. hot women coming in all shapes and sizes and attract different men. but since the main audience of soaps is women... its ok to me if all the guys on the show are tall dark handsome...all round hot.
