Does anyone else agree with Elton John about American Idol?!
Question: A while back Elton John condemned American Idol. The show centers around looks and popularity, it has nothing to do with real talent. It's a shame that people with real talent never get the chance. Do you think that Elton is right in saying that American Idol is all about good looks and popularity, and nothing to do with genuine music talent? I for one agree with Elton.

Looks and popularity?? Have you heard of Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, or Clay Aiken?!! (I realize Aiken didn't win, but he got second place, which is still pretty darn good).
Okay, so maybe they were popular, but it must've been for their personalities, because it definitely wasn't for their looks!!
Of course it's a popularity contest to an extent, b/c the fans call in & vote for their favorite person...but they wouldn't have even made it on to the show in the first place if it wasn't for the judges recognizing their talent.
I don't agree in all cases...think of people who have found success on the show that aren't particularly attractive...clay aiken, elliot yamin, etc.
Not to say that looks don't help people out if they do have a great voice. But I have also seen people that are beautiful and get rejected because they can't sing a note.
YES. I'M NOT A BIG ELTON JOHN FAN BUT I HAVE TO RESPECT HIS TALLENT.
Well, some people do have talent. American Idol gave Chris Daughtery exposure and now he has his own band. Likewise with Constantine Marolis.
