I want to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles but I haven't seen t!
Question: ...I was wondering if someone could give me a summary (just a paragraph) of what I might need to know before I watch the show. I'LL LEAVE THE T3 PLOT OUT, AS IT HAS NO INFLUENCE IN THE TV SERIES.
according to the T1 plot, in the 90s a digital defense system (Skynet, SN) was designed by Miles Dyson. eventually SN became self-aware and attacked the humans. about 40 years later, a man called John Connor (JC) instituted a resistance (TechCom, TC). that resistance fought SN for quite a while, eventually invading SN's headquarters, but just before being destroyed, SN sent a Terminator (model T-101, Swarzchenegger) to the past (1980s) to kill JC's mother Sarah Connor (SC), thus preventing the resistance from ever being formed (no Sarah, no John, no resistance). JC sent one of his sergeants, Kyle Reese back too to protect his moher.
back in the 1980s (this is where T1 takes place) the T-101 arrives and kills 2 out of the 3 Sarah Connor listed in the phone book. the third one is JC's mom. kyle arrives and keeps her safe, they even have sex one night (wich means kyle is JC's dad... that's kinda complicated, i'll explain it at the end), but then the T-101 kills Kyle, so Sarah runs and eventually crushes the termiantor with another machines (ironic). but the thing is, the terminator's arm is left intact.
Later, in the space between T1 and T2SC runs away, and has her son, but she is arrested and John is put in foster care. Skynet sends another terminator, this time to kill John, but the resistance send yet another terminator to protect John... the resistance sends a T-101 (ironic). the terminator skynet sent to kill john is model T-1000. john and the "good T-101" release sarah, who then escapes and goes after miles dyson (she believes tha if she kill him, she kills skynet) john and the t-101 stop her. then they all go with miles to his lab, and blow it all to hell, miles is the one that activates the bombs, but he sacrifices himself. sarah, john and the t-101 flee and the t-1000 goes after them. later on, they kill it (obviously), but sarah is facing charges for the alleged murder of Miles, wich we all know didn't happen that way. T2 ends there, and the tv series picks up 2 years later.
i'll now explain the whole time travel thing: Skynet sent back the "bad T-101" to kill Sarah, but that terminator got crushed... except his arm. the people who nitially designed Skynet, based their research on that arm. By sending the termiantor back, Skynet insured its existence.
a similar thing happens with John. By sending Reese back, he inadverttedly ensured his existence.
But, (now i'm refering to the show) if sarah wants to kill Skynet, she'd have to give John up. why? because by killing skynet, the resistance would never be formed, kyle would never be sent to the past and john would never be born.

If I remember right, Sarah Connor gave birth to a son that going to led the revolution, in the future. Idea of the Terminators( machines) is to kill off her to prevent any worries in the future. The franchise tackles that thought mainly. Must of those movies focused on that as plot device.
it's not the sort of films you can do a short summary on it's quite confusing i know because i tried to explain it to my friend and in the end i baffled my friend so much that we had to watch them but here goes i'll try,
In the first one a terminator (Arnie) comes from the future to kill sarah Connor and a soldier also comes from the future to protect her (Kyle Reese) so as it turns out Sarah's unborn child has sent Kyle from the future to protect her because the whole future relies on her unborn child (John connor) becoming a warrior and fighting a war against the machines in the year 2029 (i think) anyway it turns out that sarah and kyle get it on and he is the father of john. kyle dies protecting Sarah and she crushes the terminator.
In the 2nd one Sarah is in a mental hospital because noone believes her story about the terminator and future etc, John is living with his foster parents and another terminator gets sent from the future to kill John (T-1000) and another terminator has been sent to protect him it's Arnie again and he's been re-programed to protect instead of kill. Anyway they figure out that if they destroy this computor place with all the hidden chips and stuff from the terminators they've collected they can change the future so they do bad terminator dies and Arnie has to die too to get rid of the last remaining chip thats in his head. same sort of stuff in the 3rd one i hope you get the drift.
At the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Sarah, John, and the Terminator successfully destroy the T-1000 and the arm and computer chip from the first Terminator. Sarah and John then watch as the Terminator is lowered into a molten steel pit in an attempt to destroy all future technology that could be used to create Skynet. Sarah and John now find themselves alone in a very dangerous and complicated world. Fugitives from the law, they are confronted with the reality that still more enemies from the future and the present could attack at any moment.
