The show is Red Dwarf, and the character is Arnold Judas Rimmer (played by Chris Barrie, who appeared as Lara Croft's side kick in the Tomb Raider movies.) Arnold was killed in a radiation leak, but was brought back in holographic form (hence the "H") by the ship to keep Dave Lister (played by Craig Charles), the last surviving crew member, company. Dave was also accompanied by a creature that evolved from his pet cat (named "Cat" and played by Danny John-Jules) and the ships computer, named Holly (played by British actor Norman Lovett for 3 seasons, and by British actress Hattie Hayridge for 3 seasons.) He also had an android compion named Kryton (played by Robert Llewellyn) starting with the 3rd season, and Rimmer was replaced in the 7th season by Kristine Kochanski (played by Chloe Annett), but returned to the series in the 8th season.
As you can tell, I'm a fan.

Arnold Judas Rimmer, former bunkmate of Dave Lister, now a hologram, on the show "Red Dwarf." Definitely one of the funniest sci-fi TV shows in history. Highly recommend getting the DVDs.
I still like the BBC comedy 'My hero' a little more.
