Why isn't the writers strike affecting soap operas?!

Soaps film anywhere from 4-6 weeks in advance. Having had experience with the last writers' strike in 1988, which lasted 6 months, I'm sure they prepared for it. Back then, they hired scab writers. Well, I'm an AMC fan too, and that's when they killed off Jesse Hubbard. When the strike was over and the regular writers returned, they were upset to learn Jesse was dead because they had a long-term storyline planned for him. So I'm sure, with that experience in mind, the shows prepared for a 4-6 Month hiatus rather than 4-6 weeks.
FYI: I find it interesting, or ironic, that AMC is bringing back Debbie Morgan (Angie) and Darnell Williams (not sure who he's going to be since Jesse's dead) (and no, that doesn't mean a thing in soaps), but they're bringing him back under the same circumstances that killed him off before.

I think the scripts are done months in advance. Either that or they have a deal with their writers similar to that of David Letterman.
I found this article written back in November that states the soaps had enough material to get them through at least January this year.

In that case of Days of our Lives, the producer (Ken Corday) and a new co-headwriter (who crossed the picket line) are writing the scripts that are being shot right now. They had 4-5 weeks shot and another 4-6 worth or scripts written at the time of the strike. The strike is 10 weeks old so they are just now starting to use the non-union written scripts.
they have enough material since they write in advance, plus they keep showing clips of the past to stretch out the material
they are...theyre running out of material as we speak..
Soaps are written and filmed well in advance. I know that as of now there are scab writers working for GH because Guza is on strike.
