Question: I was told its non-fiction but how does he remember exactly what happened, did he keep a diary? Are the real names of his family and friends used?

Rock probaly just exgerrates in some details but its probaly based on what it was like for him growing up.
But I'm not totally sure about the name part.
He probably changed them due to privacy and the risk of being sued for using peoples names without permission to betray someone on his show.
The show is "loosely" based on his upbringings in NY. Some of the things are true - he was picked on as a kid by a bully, he grew up in an environment where the neighborhood had a drug problem, his mother was strict but loving, there was alot of racism between whites and Blacks in the community, etc...he has changed the names of his family for the show. All Rock is really doing is taking a comical twist on his upbringing some truth and some fiction. It's a good show.
I don't know how true the show is but I know I truly hate Chris Rock. I've had gunshot wounds were funnier and more enjoyable than that show or any Chris Rock performance.
