Question: ...in the Jefferies tube trying to make an adjustment with a tool that, as I recall, looked somewhat like an oversized tuning fork.
Time is running out, the tool is stuck in the wrong polarity, and he's imploring Spock over communicator to save the ship by jettisoning him and the engines (or warp core or whatever).
Of course Spock calmly instructs him to continue working as there are still a few seconds left.
