Multi-Grain Cheerios commercial, British actors, dubbed in American?!
Question: I'm an American living in a Canadian city close to the US border, where our cable system includes the main 4 US networks, as well as the Canadian networks.
In both, they have been airing a commercial for Multigrain Cheerios where a couple are arguing, because the man makes a casual comment about weight and she gets so defensive as he's trying to defuse the comment. The actors are obviously British and the accent supports it in the Canadian commercials. Yet, when the same commercial is aired in the US networks, the same words are totally dubbed with American accents.
What is that? Why couldn't this commercial be aired in the US as is? I just find that move quite wasteful, in my opinion.

and because americans cant possibly understand a british accent.. too dense..good for you for coming up here and getting a proper education,,,
It may seem wasteful to you, but the advertiser will want to achieve familiarity with the audience in those types of commercials. By adding an unfamiliar dialect, you would alienate a certain portion of people. The company probably believed that the cost in dubbing would be worth the advantage of having an impact on that portion of the American population.
