Are the writers mad at Leno for going back on air?!

Question: I know Leno said last night that he is on the side of the writers but are they not mad that he's sidestepping them and going on with the show? Maybe I'm just confused....

The WGA is mad at Leno for going back on and for writing anything (his monologue), but most writers are being careful to protest NBC rather than Leno, himself, because he has also been a big supporter of the writers and the strike -- he picketed with them a few times and spoke out in their favor. He and O'Brien were also paying the other employees on their shows out of their pockets for a couple of months -- most of the writers don't want to look as if they would prefer those other employees to lose their jobs, which would happen if Leno's and O'Brien's shows did not return before the strike is resolved.

yes, the writers are mad at Leno

From what I just saw on CNN, the answer is no.

Although, they are picketing outside the show, they are mad at NBC for not trying to get a deal like David Letterman's production company could, not at Jay. NBC owns The Tonight Show whereas Letterman owns his own show and sells the rights to CBS. Therefore, Letterman could by himself go and make a deal where Leno cannot, only NBC can.

I don't think they are mad at him but I saw his show last night and I thought he was great I don't think he needs writers he does a great job on his own and like he said last night that was the way he used to do it

They are upset at him for doing a monologue. He wrote the monologue, and he is a member of the Writer's Guild.
