Feck. Are they really going to Americanise Father Ted?!

Question: "Ted, I'm hugely confused."

Is this some kind of sick joke? How can they possibly do this to such a classic comedy? How can they replace Dermot Morgan and Ardal O'Hanlon?

I have watched the British and North American versions of most of the shows they have done that with. And I'm sorry to say the Americans should leave well enough alone. I can't think of one show off hand they took from the UK that was anywhere near as good as the original. There is just something about the way the UK does comedy that simply can't be beat.

Why? It's Irish/Catholic comedy - if the Americans can't understand it - tough!

Drink, feck, ****!!

Have another bit of sitcom Father, go on, go on, ye will, ye will.
US sitcom is based on sharp flashy dialogue with pretty actors and Brit sitcom is based on character observation and well, situations.
I don't know if it will work, I hope it does, but the odds are against it.
Our Comedy does not travel well across the pond.
Feck!

Probably!.

The actors will be extremely well groomed, young with perfect glowing teeth.

They will speak with Californian accents and stop talking at every punch line for the canned laughter to kick in.

They will then sell it back to us, of course we will buy it at a hugely inflated price and show it forever on Cable.

The original will be lost, and in 30 years time the next generation will know that Father Ted was really American and not Irish at all.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooo there will be no a@se feck fags girls drink
sorry the americans cannot spoil another british comedy
they just dont get it

FatherTed had canned laughter.

Most US shows with laughter is a live studio audience but these are a dying breed. Lots of shows come along based on British ones. I prefer originals but there can be great things made based of of a general premise. These are being made because the owners of Father Ted shopped it around.

While I love Britsh programming, I think some good examples of good US shows based off of good UK shows include Sanford & Son, All in the Family, and Three's Company which was not like Man About the House as it had much more slapstick in it and in truth was a whole lot more innocent like the Carry On films which are superior to all comedy mentioned in this thread.

These US shows were remade as British shows and are generally better:

Golden Girls into Brighton Belles, Maude into Nobody's Pefect,Match Game into Blankity Blank, Who's the Boss into Upper Hand, That 70s Show into Days Like These, Married with Children into Married for Life, Good Times into The Fosters, Mad About You into Loved by You and now you can see both sides do it.

I have heard about that, and it is a joke. Knowing the Americans they will tell things different in the show, like can you see them saying feck, @rse, drink in american accents? One thing is for certain you can't replace the orginal characters from the show.

After the wonderful remake of Red Dwarf:

I can't see how they could feck it up...

... who am I kidding, it'll be fecking sh*te.
