I think it would have lasted longer than 4 seasons if they had left Marissa on. I read that it was not her choice to leave, that she was removed from the show because they had no more story lines for her character.
In season 4 everyone changed because of Marissa's death. It wasn't the same show and ratings went down.
Marissa was my favorite character. I hated how the producers/writers kept her so messed up. I do think they could have let her live and all of the four end up going to college together or nearby. (like on BH 90210).

and after she died, everyone else just got really sad and depressed, and taylor townsend kind of took over.. hmm
The OC was definatly better b4 Marrisa died!!!!!!!! maybe thats why it was cancelled after only 16 episodes in the last (4th) season!!!!

when marissa died, the o.c. died. it was the most ridiculous thing to go down in tv.
