The bulk of their best talkie material is not available on DVD in the US because the US copyright holders Hallmark have licensed them to Lion's Gate whose head hates Laurel & Hardy and has only given 2 or so pathetic quality releases. The same can be said for Little Rascals, Charley Chase, Betty Boop, Heckle & Jeckle, Mighty Mouse and many other important pieces of our culture being blocked by hate.

In the UK the ownership o these are different, don't ask me how, but the owners there licensed the films to UNiversal and there is a 21 disc boxset that is going out of print but still available last I checked. What you shoulddo is get this boxset and if you live in the US get a region free DVD player that converts PAL to NTSC. Pioneer and Phillips generally do this.

That 21 disc box has their talkies and silents from Hal roach Studios, the silents are not owned by Hallmark in the US and there have been released in some compilations, mixed bag of various material but he best are out of print and are about to be replaced with a large collection of Silent Laurel & Hardy with heavy bonus material from the Hal roach studios like ample silent Little Rascals, Charley Chase and talkie RKO Edgar Kennedy shorts.

Fox has released 2 boxsets of their later films which are far from their best but enjoyable to me.

Warner has 2 releases one is a TCM Spotlight Collection which are the best films available in quality right now. They also have two films in a Classic Comedy Team Collection along with two films from Abbott and Costello and the Three Stooges, one of which really stars the comedy team of Jack Pearl and Jimmy Durante.

Also look into www.looserthanloose.com, they have several high quality pd collections of films with he regular players in Laurel & Hardy films.

Kino has released collections of solo Stan Laurel shorts, solo Oliver Hardy shorts and 2 collections of Charley Chase shorts. A new collection from Milestone in concern to Charley Chase was planned but it seems tha the company releasing them may no longer release silents.

get on line with..TCM...turner classic movies...that network sells cd's of almost every classic movie..you can buy individual cd's or packages..

Get in to a CD store and ask for it, even if they dont have it still they will get you your CD from somewhere.
