Why are people obsesed with the show naruto?!

Question: i find it annoying, but that is not the point. everyone in my school is running around saying believe it every other sentence and it is so annoying. i don't care if they watch it but i don't want them to give me every detail of the show every week, i just want them to shut up so i can relax. i thought i would be fair and watch an episode and i wanted to shot myself 5 minutes in, it was so horrible. why do people treat this show like it is a religion?

It's an excellently written show with an amazing plot. The American Dub is pretty poor, but the original Japanese version is exemplary. Personally, I like most of Shonen Jump's other work better, like Death Note and Bleach, but there's a lot to be said for Naruto. I don't like the titular character as much as many of the others, e.g., Hyuuga Neiji, Hatake Kakashi, and Nara Shikamaru--but Uzumaki Naruto has some saving graces--the Kyuubi, for instance.
But, as with most things, you either love it or hate other people for liking it. There is no middle ground with some people.
The whole 'Believe it' thing is a Dub creation. Naruto actually says "Dattebayo," which doesn't mean anything at all in Japanese, but he says it to sound edgy. They replaced that with the irritating "Believe it," because Americans almost never say words that don't mean anything. One of my millions of gripes with the Viz dub.

Coz it's anime and everyone loves anime. Well, obviously not all of the people here, but you know.....
