Judge Judy?!

Question: How does it work? Do the participants get paid for appearing? Does the TV company pay their judgments? Intrigued to know.

It tells you in the scroll at the end of the show but it goes by so fast that it is difficult to read. There is an amount of money allotted for the case i.e. $5000 The person who wins their case is paid out of that and the remainder is split between the two parties. If the winner is awarded $2000 then they receive $3500 and the loser will be paid $1500. I hope I helped.

I don't really know if they get paid or not. I think so. I would just like to say that Judge Judy is awesome. She should run for president.

II believe they have a $5000 pool of money. The winner gets the amount they are suing for from that. I believe the loser gets the rest. To the poster who said there is no pool of money...READ THE INFORMATION that is scrolled on the screen after the show. It CLEARLY states what I said above....

No, they dont get paid and no there is no "pool of money", its a real court room with cameras. Simple as that. There is no "reality tv costs" as one would expect, the plaintiffs and defendants are asked if they are would appear and if they agree the show is aired.

I agree, Judge Judy doesnt miss a thing, she rules.

I doubt it. It sjust a courtroom on TV. Bit boring really...

Could we please have Judge Judy over here in the UK to run our government and Civil Service. She could teach them sensible prompt solutions without dithering delays through incompetence

pity British judges had the b@lls to do that in court.

I don't know about the money side if things for sure but I believe there is a pool of money provided by the TV company. The winner gets their award from that and then both parties may share what is left. It's not a real court and the judgements there are not legal judgements.

Legally it is mediation and both parties must agree to be bound by the decision of the mediator (in this case Judge Judy) and must agree not to pursue any further legal action in the case. That part I know is correct as a friend who is a US lawyer explained it to me.

Hamish got it right - get her the points!

At the end when they run the credits it does say that the participants have been paid from a fund. Doesnt state how much though
