Who else is turned off with today's TV's shows besides me?!

Question: I know alot of people are not going to agree with me but here goes. I think today's TV's shows are nothing but utter crap & garbage. Most of the sitcom's are the same predictable nonesense with either dumb toilet humor or they can't keep themselves from talking sexual innuendo or using profanity for more than 5 minutes. They have kids who do nothing but disrespect parents or anyone else of authority but yet that's considered cool & funny. The talk shows are utter nonesense. And don't get me started on Reality TV where the media attempts to insult our intelligence by insisting that the shows are real when you can tell they are not(Most of them anyway) . I respect most of the TV shows from yesteryear where they didn't need all the crap of today to make their shows funny. They did it without profanity without the toilet humor & without sexual innuendo every 5 minutes. (yes i know shows like Three's Company did their share but it's not as bad as today's shows are)

Agreed. I miss The Andy Griffith Show, Bewitched, and the like. So much better than today's shows. At least they had a decent plot.

All I watch is '30 Rock', 'The Office' and 'Heroes'...most television is crap.

They are more closely integrated into sponsorship and dollar value than they used to be. The whole point of reality programming is that they don't have to pay anyone except an editor. Most of the 'contestants' fight for a prize of 10,000-100,000 and the only person benefitting is the actual winner. Considering that's the cost of a few adverts running during the show, the producers and network make a killing.

Yes television has gone downhill since the 60's-70's. Why the networks are rehashing these old shows lately I have no clue. There seems to be a total lack of talent in the entertainment industry in general. Shock value seems to sell shows, that and human misery.

Yes there have been a few shows that I have thought to be amazing in the past few years. Arrested Development is great, Carnivale, Hexed, loved Buffy in it's day. The question really should be "Why do the good shows get cancelled as soon as I figure out they exist?"

There's good TV out there, you just have to look for it. Reading reviews by critics helps, as does word of mouth from friends with similar taste. Some good shows currently on the air (I prefer serialized drama myself; many of these are available on DVD):

Heroes
Prison Break
Ugly Betty
Lost
The Shield
Desperate Housewives
Pushing Daisies
House, MD
Battlestar Galactica
24 (early seasons, it tanked later)

You are watching the wrong shows. For sitcoms pick up some DVDs of Scrubs and Arrested Development. For drama I can't talk enough about Rescue Me. The main character Tommy is a real SOB but you can't help but care about him.

Rescue Me does contain profanity, but it is done for realism and not shock value like other series.

If you aren't turned off by Scifi check out Doctor Who. One of the longest running TV series of all time, the current Doctor is my personal favorite of the last 40 some years. Also Battlestar Galactica is a war story set in space. Most of the time you forget you are watching scifi and you just get wrapped up in the characters.

I have cable TV that I have to pay for which makes it worse. There 158 choices & I'd say 75% of them are crap. About the only good things on the local stations are sports when they are in season & the news. On the cable channels there is a lot more to choose from but even some of those are crap. I am fortunate in the fact that I have Boomerang which is the comics from the 60-70's era when cartoons were cartoons. Wylie Cyote was the "bad guy". I agree with Squirell & Atom 74, mostly foul launguage, sexual matters, & human misery. People wonder what's wrong with young kids these days...take a look at some of the TV shows they watch, the video games they play & my favorite....the music they listen to or how they dress. I might be older but I'm not that old. It is my choice and I would rather read a book or clean house than watch the TV or listen to the so called music of today. I'm not saying everything on TV back in the 60's - 70's was perfect, but it was a heck of a lot better than today.
