Why do I laugh at Family Guy?!
Question: It's a really funny show but it's approach to humor is so random that I don't know why i keep laughing. I feel thats its mostly stuff Peter does, those random flashbacks such as "like the time...", and the way the characters talk. Does anybody have more knowledge on the shows approach to humor and what makes it entertaining?
By the way, has anybody seen Peter fighting that giant chicken? That was funny. Please give feedback.

You laugh at it because it's FUNNY! It's the funniest thing on TV. Stewie is a riot all by himself, and Brian the dog, and the interaction between them.
The randomness is what makes it funny! It's a way of suddenly talking about something else, a joke coming out of nowhere.
And yeah, Peter fighting the giant chicken. It started with him trying to use coupons to get a discount on fried chicken, but after that every few episodes the chicken would appear and they'd fight for a few minutes, destroying everything in their path. 100 years from now college students will analyze that, to see why it's funny.
Did you see the episodes of South Park where they tried to get Family Guy off the air? They showed the writers of Family Guy were really manatees, who picked plot points at random. That was funny too!

I guess cuz it's kinda, u know, stupid funny! I love it! It's also kinda satiric, so it makes us laugh at the people in the world.
Original show, classic. That's why its funny. Same originality that the older comedys in the 50s were funny to the audience back then.
Oh I have! It lasts like 10 minutes, and it's so random.. I know, it's so funny! It's sooo funny when Stewie is like, "yeah like that one time" and he goes into this story about all this stufff..
It's so funny because some of it is so true, and the randomness of it. Stewie is so funny and small, and his english accent is too cute.

I think that the stuff he does is just so stupid you almost have to laugh. I love Brian with his drinking problem and how Stewy hates Lois.
That's why you laugh. that's why everyone laughs at it, because it's random. You hear or see something and you're first reaction is 'what the...?' And yes, Peter fighting the giant chicken is the best running joke they have next to Peter's hatred for Meg. So far I've counted three times they have fought.
do you watch it at night if so its because when its night your councience is kind of gone and well you basiclly laugh at almost any thing and if it is not that then its f--- funny
It's like spongebob for me. So random and stupid that its funny. Some times we need a little nonsense in our lives. Ya, I saw that chicken fight. it was disturbing and funny.

i think because of the randomness that makes is so hilarious.
it seems like they take certain topics that most shows wouldn't dreaming of making fun of, and then make fun of it, but they make it okay to laugh at.

I loooooove family guy!!! I like Peter but I really think Stuie is the funniest. He says the craziest stuff. And yeah I saw when Peter fought the chicken...that was the longest fight!
I love the giant chicken and like you, I too wonder why I keep laughing at the show time after time. Stewie is hilarious, and Chris? He is such a funny little fat dude! Peter is so stupid he cracks me up!!!!! I dont know why, but I know I love to watch it.

I think you hit it on the head when you said that the humor is random. You just never know what is next. The fighting chicken is THE perfect example! Out of nowhere, the fight begins and you have no idea why or when it will end. WHen it's over, no one questions it, he just continues where he left off. Another is the fact that Stewie is just an infant but is so smart! Silly tings like going to the resteraunt where people are smoking weed and they go into the conversation about death. I avoided the show for months but as soon as I saw it, I can't get enough! You just never know whats next and it always catches you off guard. That's why I think it's so funny.
